Year 6

Maths

This half term, the children will be learning to:

Literacy

This half term, the children will be learning to:

  • Learn how to use comprehension skills to deepen their understanding of reading.
  • Study the features of a range of text genres, including both fiction and non-fiction, to expand and extend their knowledge of writing styles.
  • Write at length including a range of high-level sentence structure.
  • Work on their understanding of how to edit and improve their work by including additional learnt features.
  • Read, write and perform poetry, focusing on the creation and performance of monologues.

The children will also be conducting weekly grammar lessons.  Each week will have a different focus which the children will be expected to show in their writing.

 

Topic

This half term our Topic is ‘The Terrible Tudors’

 

 

Homework:

Daily:
Could you ensure that your child reads every day, for at least 10 minutes and their reading record is signed at least once a week by an adult. Children should be reading Accelerated Reader books where they can take a short comprehension test in school once they have finished. Children will be required to practise their weekly spellings every night using ‘Look, Cover, Check’ and also practise their times tables every night.

Weekly:
Spelling homework will be handed out on a Thursday and is to be completed and returned to school on the following Thursday.  Maths homework is set weekly with challenges on Times Table Rockstars and should be completed at least once a week. We have a homework club running every lunch time, should the children wish to complete their work in the lunch hour.

PE:
We shall be doing PE outside throughout the year, therefore would you please provide warm jog bottoms, sweat tops and trainers. For indoor PE, your child will need navy shorts, a plain white top and plimsolls. Please could you make sure that everything is labelled with your child’s name. No earrings are allowed to be worn in school.
